Eric and I will often go for walks around the neighborhood after dinner- especially as the evenings cool off and the summer light lingers. I am not up to walking very far yet, but I thought i could manage a stroll around the block on my bike. It was nice to get out around the neighborhood and talk and laugh with Eric.

You look great on that bike! I bet it was so nice to get out with your hubby. :)
Hello,
I've been following your blog since I was diagnosed with hip impingement (FAI) back in July. Its one of the blogs I don't find depressing. And it looks like you are doing well, which I am glad to see. I am having a tough time getting insurance to cover the surgery and am wondering how you got it covered? (if you don't mind me asking). By the way, Eric is a great photographer. I was quite impressed with the photos. Josh
Hi Josh, Sorry to hear about the diagnosis. getting insurance to cover this type of preventitive surgery is difficult. Where do you live/where would the surgery be? and what type of insurance do you have? i recommend talking extensively with your surgeon and his staff regarding how to get it covered- there are certain ways a surgeon can label or 'code' the operation to get it covered. insurance co are more apt to cover it if you have already have a labral tear as well. i work for the hospital i had my surgery done at and for some reason our provided insurance covers it. but the doc also coded it a certain way. Be choosey about your surgeon, it's a big surgery. Dr. Chris Peters did mine here in Salt Lake and he's published on it at least twice.
glad you liked the photos.
i'm curious to know what other blogs about FAI are out there?
Hi Polly,
Thanks for the reply. I'm actually in the process of changing to Blue Cross and Blue Shield. It looks like they now will cover the surgery, so long as requirements are met. This became effective August 11, 2009. Once I get the insurance, Ill most likely have Dr. Peters do the surgery. I live in Salt Lake City. It was his assistant who diagnosed me. I paid out of pocket for the consult because I knew I had it, but the IHC docs didn't know anything about it. I would encourage you to stay away from any FAI blogs, while you are recuperating. They can play with your head and psyche. Josh
One question I forgot to ask - what is your opinion of Peters? Did he a good bed side manner? Did he clearly explain how things would go, etc.? And if you don't want to bounce messages back forth on your blog, feel free to email me at jel175@yahoo.com. Have a great night! Josh
